I don&#8217;t mean the scripts that denote <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_CrestlineWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Ford Crestline script\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">series<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_LSWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Chevrolet Suburban LS trim level badge\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">trim level<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_300TouringWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Chrysler 300 Touring edition badge\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">both<\/a>. I&#8217;m referring to those that advertise new features or options.<\/p>\n<p>They became especially prevalent as automatic transmissions became popular, particularly in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/2007\/01\/low-priced-three.html\">low-priced segment<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_1951ChevRWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"1951 Chevrolet - rear\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Chevrolets<\/a> sported <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_PowerGlideWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"1951 Chevrolet PowerGlide medallion\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Power Glide<\/a> inscriptions on their trunk lids and 1951 Fords proclaimed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_FordomaticWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"1951 Fordomatic Drive script\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Fordomatic Drive<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_1954FordCvWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"1954 Ford convertible\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">later<\/a> shortened to simply <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_1954FordomaticWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"1954 Fordomatic script\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Fordomatic<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_1953MercSWWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"1953 Mercury station wagon\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Mercury<\/a>, for some reason, stylized the O in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_MercOMaticWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Mercury Merc O Matic emblem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Merc O Matic<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_1953PlymSdWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"1953 Plymouth sedan\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Plymouth<\/a>, without a real automatic, touted the oddball <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_Hy-DriveWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Plymouth Hy-Drive emblem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Hy-Drive<\/a> before celebrating with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_PowerFliteWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Plymouth PowerFlite script\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">PowerFlite scripts<\/a> once the new Chrysler autobox became available in the low-priced Mopar. Cars with overdrive, previously unembellished, suddenly gained <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_PlymOverdriveWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Overdrive script\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Overdrive scripts<\/a>, among them <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_1953PlymCvWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"1953 Plymouth convertible\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Plymouth<\/a> and the new-for-&#8217;52 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_AeroWillysWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Aero Willys with overdrive\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Aero Willys<\/a>. For <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_Volvo1800Web-Large.jpg\" title=\"Volvo 1800S\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Volvo<\/a>, it was sufficient to say merely <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_VolvoAutomaticWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Volvo Automatic script\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Automatic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This trend began long before the 1950s, with Chrysler Corporation&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/2007\/02\/fluid-drive.html\">Fluid Drive<\/a>, which appeared in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2007-2-28_1946DodgeRFlDrWeb-Large.jpg\"target=\"_blank\" title=\"illustration of Dodge Fluid Drive rear bumper\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\">different locations<\/a> on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2007-2-28_DeSotoFluidDriveWeb-Large.jpg\"target=\"_blank\" title=\"illustration of DeSoto Fluid Drive emblem\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\">different makes<\/a>. As simple Fluid Drive evolved into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_GyroMaticWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Dodge Coronet Gyro-Matic emblem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Gyro-Matic<\/a> and Fluid-Torque, these were duly noted, sometimes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_FluidTorqueQuadrantWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Chrysler Fluid-Torque shift quadrant\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">inside the car<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_1942OldsAdWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"1942 Oldsmobile advertisement\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Oldsmobile<\/a> might have been the first to court transmission envy with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_HydraMaticEmblemWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Oldsmobile Hydra-Matic emblem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Hydra-Matic emblems<\/a> on pre-war cars.<\/p>\n<p>Once autoboxes became common, of course, it was unfashionable to beat the same old drum, but other forms of technology took up the cry: Studebaker put <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_StudeTTWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Studebaker with Twin Traction emblem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">TT emblems<\/a> on cars with Twin Traction <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_TwinTracsWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Studebaker Twin Traction\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">limited slip differentials<\/a>, Hudson touted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_TwinHPowerWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Twin H-Power script\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Twin H-Power<\/a> on cars with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-7-30_TwinH-PowerWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Hudson Twin H carbs\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">dual carbs<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_FalconV8Web-Large.jpg\" title=\"1963 Ford Falcon V8\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">V8 engines in compact cars<\/a> rated a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_260V8Web-Large.jpg\" title=\"Ford 260 V8 emblem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">fender mention<\/a>. Before the ready availability of factory <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_1955ChevNapcoWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"1955 Chevrolet with Napco 4x4 conversion\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">four-wheel drive<\/a>, the few conversion systems were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_NapcoWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Napco four-wheel drive emblem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">proudly noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The trend has never really stopped. Once manufacturers got electronic fuel injection to work properly they began decorating their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_LTDSWRRWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Ford LTD station wagon\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">cars<\/a> with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_ElecFIWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Ford Electronic Fuel Injection logo\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">appropriate emblems<\/a>. Today, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_ChevHHRWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Chevrolet HHR\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">GM<\/a> wants us to know that many of its cars will burn <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_FlexFuelWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Chevrolet FlexFuel emblem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">85-percent ethanol<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_HybridSynergyWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive emblem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">Hybrid logos<\/a> are everywhere, even on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_PriusEmblemWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Toyota Prius emblem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">models<\/a> that don&#8217;t have a conventional drivetrain alternative and are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2008-10-22_PriusRRWeb-Large.jpg\" title=\"Toyat Prius\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"imglink\">readily recognizable<\/a> by sight.<\/p>\n<p>CarPorters, what other technology badges have you seen recently?
