Ben later sold the Ford to his brother Woody, and bought a ’37 Ford convertible sedan, whose parts car became my first automobile.

Fifteen years later, the <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_CousinsCarsWeb-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Cousins' cars at Falls Village" target="_blank"class="imglink">cousins’ cars were all imported, Ben’s Volvo 544 at left, then Woody’s Alfa Spyder, and two Volkswagens belonging to Cousin Becky and her husband Bob.

Family cars convene at all seasons of the year. In <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_PeugEaster1960Web-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Easter Sunday 1960" target="_blank"class="imglink">1960, we see Dad, my sister Rosemary and me about to go to church on Easter Sunday in our Peugeot 403 (Mother was behind the camera). Just ten years later, Mother accepted a ride from me in my <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2005-4-13_Rover1Web-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Bunny in Rover 2000TC" target="_blank"class="imglink">new Rover.

We often visited my cousins in New Jersey, where in <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_NJMar1954Web-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="New Jersey 1954" target="_blank"class="imglink">March 1954 someone snapped my cousin George with Rosemary and the dog Frolic. Uncle Tom appears to be changing a tire on his Studebaker Conestoga, while on the right is one of several <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_WillysSWRFWeb-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Willys station wagon" target="_blank"class="imglink">Jeep station wagons they owned through the years. I seldom saw my Aunt Emmy, because she lived in Florida. It seemed like every time she came north she had a new car, a <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_AuntEmmie55DodgeWeb-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Kit and Aunt Emmy with '55 Dodge station wagon" target="_blank"class="imglink">Dodge station wagon in 1955, a <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_AuntEmmie58PlyWeb-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Kit and Aunt Emmy with '58 Plymouth station wagon" target="_blank"class="imglink">new Plymouth three years later.

Postscript

Our driveway was (relatively) empty this Thanksgiving, as we enjoyed a 30-year tradition of dining with long-time friends Billie and Jeff and their daughter Corie in Mansfield, Massachusetts. The <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_TgivingTableSetWeb-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Billie's table set for Thanksgiving" target="_blank"class="imglink">table was elegantly set when we arrived, and our <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_TgivingFeastEastWeb-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Fosters and Sienas eating Thankgiving feast" target="_blank"class="imglink">feast was <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_TgivingFeastWestWeb-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Fosters and Sienas eating Thankgiving feast" target="_blank"class="imglink">plentious. Outside, <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_CarsinSienasDrivewayWeb-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Cars in Sienas' driveway" target="_blank"class="imglink">the cars in their driveway hinted that dinner was being served. We don’t always travel with a <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_BikeinTowWeb-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Suburban with motorcycle in tow" target="_blank"class="imglink">motorcycle in tow. Our son Edward had decided that the biking season was about over, and rode his <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_EddosHondaWeb-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Edward's Honda RVT 1000R" target="_blank"class="imglink">Honda RVT 1000R from Boston. Anticipating darkness after dinner and the rain showers we encountered en route home, he <a href="http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-11-22_Edward&BikeLoadedWeb-Large.jpg"target="_blank" title="Edward loading his bike on trailer" target="_blank"class="imglink">loaded it for the final leg of the trip.

I doubt that I’ll be surfing the web in 2057, but if this item is still out there in cyberspace, I imagine people will marvel at what we drove a half century earlier.
