They never sold it. Over the years they acquired many more cars and kept most of them, too. Each car had not only a name but a motto. This <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMElectromobileWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of 1905 Electromobile\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\n1905 Electromobile<\/a>, with British chassis and body by Kellner of Paris, was called <i>&#8220;Port Bonheur&#8221;<\/i> (Bringer of Happiness) and carried the motto <i>Ca va sans dire<\/i> (It goes without saying).  In 1927, when their old cars had become noteworthy, the Andersons enjoyed showing them to visitors in the carriage house at their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mot.org\/Museum\/estate.html\"><br \/>\nestate<\/a> in Brookline, Massachusetts, creating one of the first auto musuems. The core of the Andersons&#8217; fleet remains with today&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mot.org\/index_flash.html\"><br \/>\nLarz Anderson Auto Museum<\/a>, which can rightfully boast &#8220;America&#8217;s oldest car collection.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On July 23rd, the Museum hosted its annual open house for members and guests at its off-site storage facility.  At this location are kept the Anderson cars and other Museum collection cars not on display, as well as cars that have been donated to the Museum for sale, in support of ongoing operations. Development manager <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMJeffreyWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of Andy Jeffrey commentating\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\nAndy Jeffrey<\/a> provided commentary on many of the cars, including this original <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMLanciaWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of Lancia B24S\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\n1959 Lancia Aurelia Spyder<\/a> from the permanent collection. Anderson cars, in addition to the Electromobile, included the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMWintonWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of 1899 Winton runabout\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\n1899 Winton runabout<\/a> &#8220;Pioneer,&#8221; <i>Ca Ira<\/i> (It will go), and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMBaileyLFrontWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of Bailey Electric\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\n1908 Bailey Electric<\/a> that was Isabel Anderson&#8217;s favorite, <i>&#8220;Le Bonne Fee&#8221;<\/i> (The Good Fairy), <i>Tourjours prete et fidele<\/i> (Always ready and faithful). A &#8220;self drive&#8221; car, the Bailey nonetheless included a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMBaileyRearWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of footman perch\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\nperch<\/a> at the back for the footman. One of the Andersons&#8217; later cars, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMLincolnMcNearWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of 1926 Lincoln\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\n1926 Lincoln<\/a>, &#8220;The Emancipator,&#8221; motto <i>Son courage fait sa force<\/i> (Its courage is its strength), carries a rare body by Brookline coachbuilder George W. McNear.<\/p>\n<p>Other notable cars in the Museum collection included a 1959 Rolls-Royce <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMRadfordRollsFrontWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of Radford Rolls shooting brake - front\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\nshooting brake<\/a>, one of four converted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMRadfordRollsRearWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of Radford Rolls shooting brake - rear\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\nHarold Radford<\/a> of London, and a large Renault from the 1920s. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMVivastellaFrontWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of Renault Vivastella\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\ncirca-1928 Vivastella<\/a> is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMVivastellaEngineWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of Vivastella engine\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\nsix-cylinder<\/a> long chassis car looking for an appropriate body. The late Arthur Fiedler, long time conductor of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bso.org\/armsOfBSO.jhtml?catName=Pops&#038;area=pop\"><br \/>\nBoston Pops Orchestra<\/a>, loved fire engines. The Museum now owns a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMFiedlerWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of Fiedler fire engine\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\n1937 Ford pumper<\/a> that was given to Fiedler by his son.<\/p>\n<p>Cars in the Museum&#8217;s collector car sales program were as varied as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAMFiat501Web-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of Fiat 501\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\n1920 Fiat 501<\/a>, an early <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAM240ZWeb-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of Datsun 240Z\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\nDatsun 240Z<\/a> and Jaguar XJ6 saloons from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAM1971XJ6Web-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of 1971 Jaguar XJ6\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\n1971<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitfoster.com\/images\/2005-7-27_LAAM1986XJ6Web-Large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Illustration of 1986 Jaguar XJ6\" target=\"_blank\"class=\"imglink\"><br \/>\n1986<\/a>.
